Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 August 2026
ShutIt is built to do one small thing well, and it does it entirely on your Mac. It collects no personal data, contains no analytics or tracking, and never connects to the internet.
1. Data we collect
None. ShutIt does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. There are no accounts to create and no sign-in.
2. What stays on your device
The only data ShutIt stores is what it needs to work, and it is kept locally on your Mac:
- The lid sound you choose (an audio file you provide), stored in your user Library folder.
- Your preferences, stored in the app's local settings.
This information never leaves your computer. Removing the app and its support files removes it.
3. No network, no analytics, no third parties
ShutIt makes no network connections. It includes no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no crash-reporting services. Because nothing is transmitted, there is nothing for us or anyone else to see.
4. System permissions
To detect the lid closing and play your sound at the right moment, ShutIt uses a small background helper on your Mac and, when you choose to enable it, an administrator-approved component that manages sleep timing. These run locally on your device to provide the app's core feature and are not used to collect information about you.
5. Children's privacy
ShutIt is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
6. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
